Our Refinery Problem

Energy: Refined out of existence - Gregory Meyer

Comment: This is a very good article that highlights the complexity of the oil market in terms of the interaction between sources of supply, the cost and technical difficulty to refine, and the logistics that bring refined crude to market. Business decisions made in the oil market focus on profitability and efficiencies; the United States should also consider national security interests that take in account the country’s ability to ensure some minimal level of refining capacity is maintained at home, whether economically practical or not.
