Niall Ferguson on Why Barack Obama Needs to Go

I can't think of anything meaningful to add to Niall Ferguson's superb argument with which I wholeheartedly concur. From the conclusion of his article, "Obama's Gotta Go":

"The voters now face a stark choice. They can let Barack Obama’s rambling, solipsistic narrative continue until they find themselves living in some American version of Europe, with low growth, high unemployment, even higher debt—and real geopolitical decline.

"Or they can opt for real change: the kind of change that will end four years of economic underperformance, stop the terrifying accumulation of debt, and reestablish a secure fiscal foundation for American national security.

"I’ve said it before: it’s a choice between les États Unis and the Republic of the Battle Hymn."

  1. I must say I do not think nearly as highly of Mr. Ferguson now that I read him implying that Romney would do much differently from Obama.

  2. Not that I want America to follow any of Europe's models, but it is a vast sweeping generalization to paint all European countries as "low growth, high unemployment, even higher debt." Germany and the Scandinavian countries would beg to differ with this assessment of their economies. I wandered in here on the recommendation of others, but after seeing this caliber of though I will show myself out.

    1. Oh I don't know. The countries of which you speak may be doing fairly well economically, but in some ways they are still "Euroweenies" (a wonderful word coined by P.J. O'Rourke). I think avoiding euroweenieness (a new word coined by me) is one of the things Mr. Ferguson is hoping we can do by turning out Mr. Obama in the upcoming election.

You are one tough crowd if the caliber of Mr. Ferguson's thoughts isn't up to your standards.

A bit arrogant, aren't you? But, I suppose you should probably post in a place where you are comfortable with everyone agreeing with your wide and varied opinions.
